66C10 Floor Patch Panel

I need some help. I have searched many threads and can't find the answer.

I am fixing some rust issues on the drivers side floor pan. I have removed the crusty floor piece and cut the patch panel to fit. My question is, what do you do at the pinch weld where the floor meets the firewall?

Do you overlap the patch panel over the pinch weld joint and weld?

Do you bend the front of the patch to meet the upper piece and spot weld like original?(I have no idea how to bend the panel to fit)

Or do you cut the patch panel off flush with the firewall piece and weld the joint.

Or ???????

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am stuck.

After having overlapped and welded I think cutting and butt welding would be better. Of course that might be easier said than done in keeping the joints tight.

Are you doing rockers under the doors. Try and keep those original height.

Yes, I am doing the rocker panel.

Here is what I did. My patch panel fit just like yours. I had a left over inner rocker from another truck and used it. I cut the floor pan almost flush with the pinch weld and took my leftover piece that was a 90 degree angle about 1" long on each side and flattened it down a bit to meet the angle of the floor and fire wall. i then drilled some holes and clamped it at the pinch weld and burned it in. at the floor seam it was butt welded. Hope this helps. I liked the idea of keeping the 90 degree pinch weld as I feel it gives it some strength at your feet when your stomping on the pedal.

Thanks Chizzler. I could bend a piece of 16 ga and then cut to fit. The pics are very helpful.

Had a friend bend a 90 in a piece of 16ga scrap. Trimmed floor patch panel back about an inch. Cut the bent piece to match, clamped and butt welded together.

Im going for a custom semi rat look Im doing it seamless but with the body lines and Im going to instaed of carpet im going to bed liner the floor






I welded the seam across the hump as well, and started across the back of the cab also

What are the gizmos called that is holding the panels together & where did you get them? I have some for aircraft work but they aint strong enough for 16-14 gauge steel. Thanks

Butt Welding Panel Clamps. Bought them at Harbor Freight. Eastwood and Northern Tool also have them.
