Torsion bar removal

Okay, so I removed the cross member and the front lower control arms. So how does one remove the actual 4 ft long bars that connect to the cross member and the lower control arm? Are they pressed on?

A large hammer, and a large drift pin of some type.
Some heat on the sleeve of the lower a-arm doesn't hurt either.

And while you are wailing away on the bar to drive it out... when you miss (and you will) and smash your hand (and you will), try not to put on too much of a show for the neighborhood kids. Not... um... that I did anything like that... I HEAR that's possible...

No heat. Use penitrating oil, WD 40 not the blue can but the new penitrating silver and black can. PB Blaster, Kroil or the like. Use a bar or something something solid to knock the bars out with it 2 pound Sledge worked. It's the dirt and rust holding in. Heat will mess with spring so use sparingly. Page 8 on build thread.

I should clarify: A little heat on the part of the a-arm that the end of the torsion bar sits in, will expand the metal a little, giving some clearance.

Just warm it up, don't make it cherry red.

And even if you DID make the A-arm cherry red, that won't affect the spring inside the arm (though I wouldn't want to use that control arm after that)

If you still have the bars off.. Would you mind measuring the exact length in inches? 45" or 48" or other?

Sorry Joe, I hauled those off to the scrap dealer several weeks ago. I ended up scoring a 70 C-10 cross member and control arm setup.
