Thumbs down You have a truck? Can you help me move...PLEASE???

How many of us get screwed into doing this? Seems every time I turn around, I end up having to help some one...and it is normally family too.
Sucks being the only one in the family with a truck. In the last 2 1/2 years, i have moved myself, my parrents, my sister, and now my grandmother.
I ended up hauling almost 100 miles north west of here to Ada Ohio, and moved my grandmother's stuff to Lima which is about 15 miles away from Ada. The thing that kinda got me, i was told I was just getting the stuff that wouldn't fit in her car, (POS Tempo) but when i got there, there wasn't hardly standing room in her Apt, and the first load to the storage unti showed that there wasn't even one car load's worth in the unit.
Oh well...what can you do? <insert smiley shugging shoulders>
The truck DID perform flawlessly though...we were in a hurry to get home so my dad could get to work. He asked me if we could make it home in lass than 1 hr and 15 min....he then said something about paying for tickets... heh heh heh that's all I needed to hear.
He got scared when the needle went past the century mark on the way home.
one hr and 10 min later, I was pullin into the driveway....land speed record...look out, here I come.

arg, good thing you dont have a car trailer too. Then not only do you get the "can you help me move" crap, but you get the "my car broken down", " I need this or that towed". I know how you feel. I helped a family member move yesterday. But she kicked down some $$ so it was all good.

Well...I did get some gas money, and I was able to deliver a freebe car to my cousin who is also in Ada...so it was all good.
Oh, I still got 12 MPG doing all this.
This is the freebe...

Of all my favorite things to do, The utmost is to have a brew.
My love grows for my foamy friend, with each thirst-quenching elbow bend.
Beer so frosty, smooth, and cold it's paradise pure liquid gold.
Yes beer means many things to me that's all for now cus I gotta pee.

I think this is why I had no problem selling my newer truck and getting the 72. Now I just drop a few words like "hot rod" or "custom" and people seemed to have stopped asking. So I'm good untill someone sees me bringing home a truck load of Home Depot.

Seems like I help a friend move (or move something very large) at least once every couple of months Last one was a very good friend about three weeks ago, I refused the cash for gas... but they fed me pretty good. Anybody asking for my help knows I have a standing "Work for Food and Beer" agreement.

If it's not an every day driver (Like mine is not) then you tell them you don't have insurance to drive it everywhere. Your insurance is limeted (because it's a collector car) to only so many miles a month, or to drive to events etc.
If your truck is every day driver, I don't know what to tell ya.

What you do is get the bumper sticker that says

"Yes, this is my truck, No, I won't help you move."

I've had the same experience with my family and friends. So, to correct this problem I first removed my truck hitch. This means no more family members asking me to take the dirt bikes/ 4 wheelers to the track ever other weekend..I know I am a ba$tard . Then to fix the overwhelming need (seems everyone in my family needs a use of a truck, but are too cheap to buy one ) I decided to do a ground up restoration, and yep the first thing removed was the engine....aaaahhhh no more family or friends asking me all the time to help them with their stuff. I normally would not be so harsh and don't get me wrong, I love my family and friends, but when you are asked to help and get nothing in return (no gas money, beer or food) it gets old.

i seem to get that alot-- being the only one in the family with a truck big enough to pull anything and the trailer to hook to it.. my grandpa has a 87 f-150 4x4 with cattle racks on it and my uncle has a newer super duty short bed 4x4 (thats moms side of the family) my uncle on my dads side has a S10, 94 K3500, and 79 f-350, so i dont get asked to help him
