Rear Axle Seal Help

I'm putting a 5 lug rear axles, differential etc in the rear end of my 1964 C10 WC housing, 2wd. It seems the axle seals don't go in properly and stay in.
I had to use a seal puller when I removed the original 17 spline seals.
Anyone know if the 64 had a one off axle seal?
Seems like the area the seal sits in is cone shaped. . .

Re: Rear Axle Seal Help

The GM 12 bolt differentials started in 1964 until they we replaced by 10 bolts in the 1980's. All the 12 bolts were the same on bearings and seals except for the starting year. The 1964 had a taper different axle seal. Try this part number Timkin 8477s. This is for the coil suspension differential. Double check in the parts book can't check right now on vacation. Good luck Poppy

Re: Rear Axle Seal Help

The GM truck 12 bolt was used in the C10's from '63-'82. The '63 12 bolt had pressed on backing plates. I believe the '63 and '64 12 bolt used a different axle bearing and seal than the '65+.
