I'm in the Blazer Jimmy club

Well I'm all in I bought one this weekend and it's going to be a driver/project but I'm going to try and drive it as long as I can before it totally goes in the shop.

Awesome. Looking forward to seeing more pics. I see it has some luggage bars on the hard top.

Jeff have you seen ones with the bars on top because I haven't. I thought it wasn't original when I first saw it.

Re: I'm in the Blazer Jimmy club

That looks like a Hickey roof rack to me. Fiberglass front and back with 3 steel bars in between.

Congrats! Welcome to the k5 club. The roof rack will seriously lower your gas mileage - you should sell it to me

I've seen a few, but they're not factory.

Nice looking rig, though. Congratulations.

It appears to be an aftermarket "hickey" model. If that is right, it is a period correct piece. Kind of hard to find in good condition. Some guys really love the Hickey stuff because it is a complete line of period correct aftermarket items. It is a desirable piece.

I'd need to see some more pictures of the rack to be sure and there are certainly others on this forum who are more educated on these particular items than me.

Nice truck!

Yes - that's a hickey rack - had one on a previous truck. They are pretty rare.

Drive it as long as you can before tearing into it...

That's the plan other than fix some small things.

Re: I'm in the Blazer Jimmy club

The single wall tops are most desirable, most feel they are stronger, less prone to sagging, improved bolting down to bedside. Some say lighter, although both are quite heavy. A bit of a rarity since only made during the last year of the first gens. We have many threads on the board about hardtops, mines the quick response

Here's a link to some of the original Hickey printed material. This one is for second gen, but a lot of the same items were offered for first gen Blazers. http://brochures.slosh.com/frame.shtml?blazer/hickey

Re: I'm in the Blazer Jimmy club

Welcome to the club! Looks like a nice Daily Driver. I'm fairly new here too. I pick up a Blazer around last Thanksgiving to use as a daily driver like you but unfortunately the trans stopped working. So I pulled it all out to redo it all (Trans, Transfer case, and Motor)
and am just about ready to put everything back in. Hopefully it all works. Can't wait to get back behind the wheel again!

That is cool and I wish the company still was in business.

Re: I'm in the Blazer Jimmy club

There was a guy on the board trying to revive it (at least some of the products) but I think he has shut it down from the threads I've seen.

Yes but not for long, I was working on something else so I thought I would have him work on the engine but I got my other project done so I'm picking it up today and work on it myself.
