C10 front suspension question.
I have a bare C10 SWB frame that i want to build for drag racing but nothing too crazy. I was wondering what are a good set of tubilar control arms for my truck. since i dont have any front suspension on the frame, might as well start it off right. Also was thinking QA1s, Moog 81114 springs and MII spindles. i have a 600hp sbc that i plan on using. th400 trans with a ford 9in. Running stock trailing arms as well. Like i said dont want too serious of a drag truck. I already have a fully built car for that. thanks.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
There are a few suppliers/vendors that offer front tubular control arms. Is there something in particular you are looking for in the control arms (more adjustability, reduced weight, etc.)?

Re: C10 front suspension question.
just would like to be pointed In the right direction. I've read several racing builds and some people change what they have for something better etc. more adjustability would be good.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
I was gonna consider stock control arms but I keep getting the run around from this guy selling them, so I might as well buy some tubular ones.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
The CPP and RideTech control arms are stout but a bit on the heavy side...I still would prefer them over the factory control arms, especially if you plan on lowering the stance. They were both easier to achieve the camber and caster settings I wanted at the lower ride height.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
Vince will keep you on the right track there. Only thing I can offer is STAY AWAY from the crap-imported super cheap tubular -arm kits on evilbay. There are some decent deals,,, not everyone needs hotchkis or UMI road-race quality moly tubular arms. But you kinda get what you pay for here.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
Is there a good aftermarket control arm that's lighter than the stock stuff? I wouldn't mind another inch of drop in the front of my truck with an aftermarket lower arm. I already have 2.5" drop spindles and the Moog 81114 springs.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
I'm not aware of any that are made on a large production scale - just custom one-off. I believe the Hotchkiss control arms come with billet 4130 cross shafts.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
I use DJM upper/lower tubular control arms. I like 'em, although they didn't work with drop spindles. I'll need to use drop springs.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
I use to run the CPP with Mcnaughty drop spindles, were very nice but saved zero weight, if you want to shave weight and have the cash look into IFS front ends with coil overs, I went with Scott's, mustang 2 spindles and manual rack.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
If you want to do some fab work, look for a 2004 and later Crown Vic front end. It is a bolt in (after you weld in some mounts), all aluminum set up that has a rack mounted on it. And it gives you bigger brakes. I used one on mine. Loses around 100# over the stock stuff. Rides good on the road and handles better than the original (and 73-87 stuff) ever did. As I said, it takes some work but it can be used. I got mine complete for $300 but I did replace the springs with stiffer springs. Email me if you would like some pictures of mine in my 65. "Haulin It" on here has it in his 84 or so truck as well.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
You went with the IFS cause you wanted to save weight? How much did you save? Was it a bolt in kit or did you have to do some fab work?

Re: C10 front suspension question.
With the bolt in front end, and a few other small things like drag tires in the front vs sportsman skinnies, went with a mini alt but added a vac pump, I dropped 210 lbs, and that's from the front. Started 56.51% front, 43.48% rear and went to 54.23% front and 45.76% rear bias. I have since removed my front inner fenders and for the time being took the exhaust off for about another 45-50 lbs I'd guess, haven't put it back on the scales since.
Suspension kit was a bolt in, I fab'd some brake lines, and routing the steering shaft proved to be a pain around my BB headers so I removed the mounts that came with the kit and I put in a engine plate and supports that were welded in. My column was also sloppy and I wanted tilt so bought a ididit which in turn made the connection to double D easy. The plate and all the supports was about a wash weight wise from the mounts.

Re: C10 front suspension question.
If that is the route you decide to take I highly recommend you request and deal with Justin, I had the misfortune of dealing with Jeff and it made me want to kick puppies, had to get Justin to straighten things out more than once. At one point I actually asked Jeff if I was being punked for some reality TV show it was that bad, Justin is the man, he has his poop in a group and runs the place I think he's the owner but could be mistaken.
