sheet mettle bed floor

I am thinking of using a sheet of sheet mettle on top of a sheet of plywood for my bed floor. How thick of mettle should I use? What if I decide to use aluminum strips between the cross sills and the sheet mettle instead of a sheet of plywood?

When I did this to my truck last year (Meet Homer) I cut a metal bed floor out of a 73-87 fleetside bed and just welded it into my bed. Sat it on the truck and mounted her up. Got rid of all that rotted wood.

Re: sheet mettle bed floor

Thanks for the info but I am looking to use a flat sheet that I can place a set of stainless strips on top of. The truck has been recently painted so I don't want to weld anything on. I would powder coat the sheet of mettle white. to mach the inside of the bed.

Re: sheet mettle bed floor

I'd suggest trex floor so it wouldn't rot, looks like wood, a bit more work but would really look nice in your truck!
