66 c10 Build

Hey everyone, I am James from GA and I am new to this site. I am starting a 66 C10 build which was my fathers. I have a limited late model dirt track car that I plan to strip and put all the high dollar goodies under the truck. AS a paint and body man I have most of the build planed out but what I don't have is the drive train. As I ask these questions or advice, keep in mind that this truck is all about my father. It will never have anything in the bed and if it gets 10 gallons to the mile, well so be it. I have 3 motors sitting on the stand, 350, 454, and a LT1. Backing these will be either a 4 speed, 2 speed power glide, 400, or a 350 turbo. 4 link rear end, coil overs, rack and pinion up front and quick change rear end. My question is with all this, what would be the best motor/trany to finish the build. My father was the mechanic, I just made them look good. I guess I should have asked more questions about what he wanted for his truck.

Re: 66 c10 Build

Hey there! I can't answer your question but wanted to say WOW you have lots of goodies for sure hahaa and choices. I'll be following your choices if you post them. My dad is a hobbie mechanic and we are restoring a 67 Chevy C10, fleetside and I think we have made up our minds to use his old 454 gto. It took us forever to decide. Lisa

Re: 66 c10 Build

Thanks and I will post all stages of the build. All the advice seems to lean towards preference. The saving grace to all of this is that there is no wrong answer. The LT1 is getting the most votes because of the weight vs the weight of the 454. We plan to aspirate the LT1 if we use it, old and new school, This way I can still go with the 2 speed, which came in the truck originally. Thanks
