Do any of you like the factory stance?

I like factory stance and a bit lower.

My '67 GMC shortbed retro rod will be lowered in a way to allow hauling and towing. Not slammed, lowered. No c-notch, bumper hitch...a total balance of form and function. I haven't owned a car in over 20 years. My kind of truck has 8-lugs, but it's nice to have a runabout shortbed set up to handle, haul, and scoot boot on down the road when you are a truck guy like me. I'm in a national antique truck club where when you say "truck" they don't think of these little 4-wheelers. They think of this or bigger. There are trucks and there are pickups in their minds. Different strokes. live and let live. I like' em all




It bothers me to see a medium duty rendered useless (IMO) by making it a pickup. Cool to look at. Thought of this decades ago. But, my strong adherence to the balance of form and function prohibits it.

I like mine stock.

Some show trucks look ok to me if they are lowered a little bit, but not dragging in the dirt.

I actually like the trucks real low, low, stock, and lifted. At any given stance these trucks look good, which is why so many people love them... however, what can ruin any of the stances is the wrong wheels and tires (well, something I don't like) A really low truck can look ridiculous with the wrong wheels as well as a stock or lifted one.

It's a pretty personal preference. For a 1/2 ton 2wd, I definitely prefer a lowered look. I guess I consider it a sport truck. For 4x4s or 3/4 tons, stock height is my jam, or a slight lift with tires. If I had a rare, original truck I'd probably leave it alone....maybe.

I've got no problem at all with a slight drop, but the frame scraping seems ridiculous to me. My truck's main purpose is to be used as a truck, so, dropping it isn't in the cards for mine.

I prefer the factory stance and plain skinny steel wheels, and close to factory tire size. During 47 years it kind of lowers itself a little bit.

I like lowered swb 2wd but stock and lifted for everything else. Not a fan of slamed trucks that's just my opinion,but with that said I do respect the time and hard work for a slamed truck. Life would be boring if all of our trucks looked the same.

Getting just a little of topic. I just installed a new motor and trans. One thing I made sure of is even though I have an electric fuel pump and MSD ignition and rewired everything under the hood, I made sure everything works just as it did when it left the factory. I don't have any extra switches or buttons to push. Any little old lady from my church could get in and drive off without any problem.
BTW, I don't have a real problem with a slight drop, just not my thing but a slammed truck looks ridiculous.

Mine has been lowered pretty much since I bought it. But, cut coils, and make shift drop didn't ride great. A few years ago I raised it back to stock height. Sure drove a lot nicer. But to me, it lost some of its personality. And I had to hop a touch to get into it, and I'm 6'0. My 5'0 wife had to haul herself in. So the following year I lowered it again. Not as low as previous, but a nice compromise. Besides, when a guy pulled up beside me and said "Nice truck. Is it a 4 wheel drive?" I knew it had to go back down. But I love them all heights.

This is what I wanted too say.

I don't know fit you are but for some of us changing a 97 lb wheel & tire is a real chore. I bought my truck with 22" wheels & tires being right at 97 lbs each.

They were the FIRST THINGS TO GO. Amen for that.

I take it the lower picture is were your truck sits now? What did you use for the Drop? Drop springs (what size's) and or lowering blocks (what size's) maybe Bags? Show and tell please.

I lower everything I own, I've always done it and I like it that way. Sometimes just a bit, sometimes a lot. It is a very divisive subject, but the thing i notice is that while most lowered guys will not insult another persons choices, whereas I've seen time and time again where stock or factory type car guys will take every opportunity to say how hideous or useless or I've ruined my truck or whatever ignorant comment they can think of. Its brutal and ruins the hobby for everyone.

Have to drop my two cents in the pot. I like moderation...my '69 C10 short/step is front spindle dropped 2 and 1/2 inches and the back 3 inches via coils. I like the stock height, also slightly raised. Depends on owner personal preference and truck usage. Well, I feel better now.

I think it is 1 1/2 coils cut in the front, and 5" drop coil in the back. My next item on the list is drop spindles and converting to disc brakes. Would like to keep the same height, just more travel. The back seems to be fine where it is. Longer term, would eventually like to do bags. Drop A-arms and out back blocks with a c-notch would be ideal. At his point it wouldn't have to frame out, but I hear it's an addiction. :0)

I agree with YBNORML all the way. I too have lowered almost every vehicle I have ever had (almost 100) and I always will until I am 6ft under. I always appreciate the amount of work that a person has put into their vehicle whether I like it or not & the last thing I would ever do is bash someone or put down their vehicle because it wasn't my taste (unless it's a Mustang - jk). If I wanted a lowered car I would have bought a car & lowered it, but I don't. I want a lowered truck so that's what I bought. Mine is bagged so I can raise it to stock height & haul whatever, or I can slam it to the ground. Mine rides and handles better than any stock truck I have ever driven. If it is done right you won't have parts falling off every time you hit a bump.

The funniest thing I have ever heard someone say about lowered vehicles is that it's a fad. Yup, a "fad".... that started after WWII and has been going strong ever since.

We are all truck lovers here, so lets just love trucks and agree to disagree on what each of us thinks cool. If you don't like it don't put it down, it's not your truck, it's mine!

well I might as well chime in. its all in what you want to do with the truck for me, my truck is a show truck/ hot rod/ weekend cruiser. Mine has always rode great and I've never once said I wish it wasnt lowered. like I said I treat my truck like a hotrod not a truck. Ive always liked the fact that there are so many out here that its great to see everyone put their personal touches and taste on them. I honestly like them all just prefer them the 2wd lowered. 4wd I like stock or lifted.

I dropped my 67 short bed four inches out back , I like the level look along with the 73 on up truck rallie wheels , it's still rides the same and being 5'6" it happens to make it easier getting in and out , don't get me wrong I can't wait to be climbing in out 67-72 four wheeler of my own ,,,with a little lift.
