Lord, it's yet another bench seat question...

I've read all the threads (numerous times!) regarding non-stock bench seat installation in these trucks, and my question is for the taller fellers among us.....

I'm 6'6" and around 240, and danged if this '69 cab doesn't feel small to me. It currently has the factory bench, which I will be replacing. I'm fabricating a rear mount fuel tank, and want access to the space behind the seat.

In all honesty, at this point I'm open to either a bench or bucket seats. I scored a really nice set of 2005 Silverado single cab 40/20/40 seats that were nowhere close to working, so I know that style of seat is out. Is the 88-93 bench my only option? Are there any buckets that work well for someone my height? I do want a headrest. Well, actually my wife wants headrests, and being able to see them through the back window doesn't bother me at all.

Any input from the taller guys among us?

Edit: I also tried bucket seats from a '72 Chevelle and a '74 Nova. No dice there, either.

I know a guy with the same issue. He has a 60/40 split seat out of an early 90s truck. He had a guy fabricate mounts that dropped the seat three inches and moved It back a little too.

That's what I'm figuring on. I've got the fabrication part covered, I just want to get the best seat I can for my situation. I wonder if the buckets out of those same year trucks have similar "clearance" as the bench?

A friend of mine just used a second row seat out of a 2007 up Tahoe/Yukon and fabricated brackets. Looks and sits great.

I've heard of that being done....did he have a slider track as part of the mount? I might be able to accomplish this.....I'm 6'6", and my wife is 5'5" LOL......if it fits me well from a legroom standpoint, she may have to slide it up a click.

I Put a 98 Chevy Split bench in my build...check it out. I'm 6'1 and its fine...definitely room to lower down if need be. It sits about same height as stock.

The c1500 bench and/or buckets have the thinnest back I've seen in these trucks. Some people may say you'll gain room when you remove the fuel tank, but that doesn't do much unless you like a 90 degree seating position, as the seat hits the rear cab wall below the window before coming in contact with the seat.

Most 2nd and 3rd row seats are equivalent in depth to the c1500 seats, but may incorporate belts, and armrests. Some also have a lot less manuverability.

The 88-98 bench does help. I'm 6'4" and I liked the way the 92 bench fit in mine. When I put the 72 Cheyenne seat in a few years ago, it put me higher and farther forward. It took some getting used to. I'm currently looking into a set of Corbeau racing seats since I mainly intend to do performance driving and auotcrosses in my truck. TMI Products makes a pretty slick bench with cutouts and good looking bucket seats if you're interested in that option.

The 88-94 bench is the most easily modified to fit. You can cut down the side brackets and weld them where you want them and a good shop can cover them to look like it came with the truck. IMHO later seats lose the vintage feel (if you are going custom it doesn't matter.)

They have a thinner back and seat foam so you may get what you want without modifying the brackets.
