If you could get the seller to have the new VIN assigned before buying that would help out a lot. If it were up to you to do it, I'd expect the price to be adjusted accordingly.
I just went through this with mine. Title matched the tag on the glove box, but not the one in the door jamb. At some point the tub had been swapped and they used the title from the old one with all of it's pieces. All it took for me was a trip to the DMV to get the proper forms and a call to the state police to send an officer out to verify and assign a new VIN. |
