1986 Wiper Motor Ground
My 86 C10 wiper motor does not park in correct location. I have read several posts on this site and it seems the most likely culprit is poor ground. It is mentioned that there is a ground strap, but mine doesn't have one that I can see. The motor is mounted with bolts going into the firewall with rubber spacers on them. How is the motor supposed to be grounded? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: 1986 Wiper Motor Ground
Try to ground the motor case with a jumper wire. if this works there ya go. From what I understand, one of the rubber grommets are lined with a ground connection.
good luck

Re: 1986 Wiper Motor Ground
I ran a jumper from the motor case to the battery ground and it still stops where it wants. I'll keep checking previous posts. Thanks

Re: 1986 Wiper Motor Ground
Do you have your switch grounded? Check out my posts below, it shows how to test

Re: 1986 Wiper Motor Ground
My wiper switch is in the column with the turn signal lever. This acted this way when I first got the truck and I have since replaced the column with a rebuilt tilt column and new wiper switch and it still does it.

Re: 1986 Wiper Motor Ground
The wiper motor park function is controlled inside the motor itself by the park switch. If the wiper motor is properly grounded through the dash switch then the parking switch failed. It's inside the motor gearbox. You can repair the motor parking switch or buy a rebuilt wiper motor.
There's an extensive windshield wiper motor troubleshooting guide in the 1986 GM light truck service manual. It starts about halfway down PDF page 1277.
