71 k10 restomod
My name is Eric and I currently own a 1971 Chevrolet K10.
It was passed down to me from my grandfather, who had owned it since it was almost new. He hasn't driven it in over 26 years and it has been a dream of mine to restore it! I started by doing a frame-off restoration of the truck a year-and-a-half ago. Since then, I have mocked up the whole drivetrain, including a LS1 ( which I plan on using his supercharged 6.2 lsa for final assembly ) and a 5-speed transmission coupled to a np205 t-case that I bought for it. I powdercoated the axles, installed a Eaton locker and disc brakes. I then disassembled the whole truck and had the frame powdercoated along with the 6 inch lift springs with polyurethane bushings. The truck has received a Boyd welding aluminum fuel tank with dual pumps plumbed* in with all -AN hoses and aluminum hard line. There have been a lot of one-off touches that have gone into this project that a lot of typical enthusiasts would never notice. But being a perfectionist, I want it to be done the way it should have been from day 1!* The next phase of this project will consist of installing the new engine ( which I have not purchased yet) and preparing the cab for Sheet Metal and body work on my custom rotisserie I have it mounted to. Everyone feel free to ask questions im sure ill have many to ask you myself! Last edited by lots-o-bunnys; 10-10-2016 at 01:04 AM. |

Re: 71 k10 restomod
I bought a nv4500 5 speed trans to go in the truck and put a np205 behind it using a spacer from advance adapters.
The nv4500 didnt need anything but i did tighten up the 5th gear nut and i rebuilt the np205 with a 32 spline fixed yoke instead of the slip yoke, i bought it with and upgraded it to 1350 u joints. |

Re: 71 k10 restomod
After i had the engine bolted to the trans i bolted the engine in, made a trans mount spacer/adapter and then set the cab on, only to find out it wouldnt fit. I then cut 18" of the floor out and made a new trans tunnel 100% from scratch.

Re: 71 k10 restomod
I had bought a skyjacker 6" lift for the truck and immediately had all of the leafs powdercoated and reassebled with stainless hardware. Then i rebuild the 12 bolt rear i had planned on running disc brakes so i welded tabs on the axle tube to fasten the hose to the line, which i later found out that would be a problem because thats exactly where my u bolt goes, so i just made new top plates to put the inner u bolt further away. Then i had the axle tube powdercoated and stuffed it with a eaton posi 4:10 and yukon shafts.

Re: 71 k10 restomod
The front differential got all of the seams ground smooth and powdercoated with moog tie rods and a steering stabilizer. This is the current state of the axle at the moment, i have a front posi carrier, willwood brakes and superwinch hubs to go on as i finish this piece.
Just last week i got the frame back from powdercoat so i have been picking away at getting a full rolling chassis. |

Re: 71 k10 restomod
This weekend i made some headway.i got the brake lines run, the fuel tank in along with the filter and vent lines.
When i got the truck it had miscellaneous bolts holding the body/spring perches on so i hade these custom bolts made that look like rivets, made out of high strength stainless which is supposed to be stronger than grade 8. Last edited by lots-o-bunnys; 10-10-2016 at 11:18 AM. |

Re: 71 k10 restomod
This past weekend i made some more progress on the truck, i hung the frame in the air with some come-alongs and my dad helped me wheel in the rear end under it. I got it all bolted down using my stainless ubolts from totally stainless!

Re: 71 k10 restomod
Nice job on that trans tunnel. Gonna be a beauty if the sheet metal looks anything near as nice as the underpinnings!

Re: 71 k10 restomod
I didnt get a whole lot done, im waiting on some more parts to come in the mail, but i did manage to get my fuel pump permanently bolted in! I ditched the single aeromotive 340 and went to dual 340's! What radiators are you guys using i was thinking about AZ performance ls swap radiator.
Thanks for all of the kind words and keeping me motivated guys! |
