Didn't see it earlier, but page 234 in the assembly manual shows the dome on the spring against the retainer. Basically post #5 above.
Course that's for the link coming out of the firewall, I don't see a description for the top. That and they're showing the pin inserted from the other side (inserted from the RH truck side). From the book, opinions, and how my 71 was configured (not pictured), it probably doesn't really matter so long as the dome in the spring washer is in direction of the retainer clip.
