I've always stayed with OEM pitman arm and used the raised steering arm on 4-6" lifts. No steering issues. Are you saying the drag link still runs downhill to the steering arm? I just did a 4" lift on my '72 using steering arm and it actually runs slightly uphill from pitman arm. It steers like a champ.I roll along with my arm on the window sill pinching the wheel between my thumb and index finger.
