Pistons/Rings replacment

So as some of you know I am in the process of taking my 350sb apart in my 1970 GMC. I currently have most of the replacement parts picked out with the E-Street Power package from Edelbrock, I went with the 2038 Kit which advertises 338HP and 389ft lbs. I am trying to get some opinions on a good set of pistons that will work well with this set up. I dont want to break the bank on it with a set of Mohles but I would like quality and something that will last and stand up to the pressure and demand. If anyone has any recommendations or ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Pistons/Rings replacment

In my opinion unless you are planning to use a power adder like nitrous or turbo a cast piston from just about any reputable source is just fine. I've used the trw, sealed power and summit all with good results. Other than compression ratio brand will have little effect on your overall setup.

What are the cam specs for that kit? The Edelbrock top end kits are very conservative with their cam profiles\are

Re: Pistons/Rings replacment

Agree about cast pistons for the most part. Regarding rings - as a machinist/builder I would not recommend chrome or moly rings unless you have fresh round & straight bores. Preferably plateau honed. If not they can take very long time to fully seat, if at all.

I will most likely get the block machined and cleaned up so its all the same. If that is what you mean by fresh round and straight bores

Re: Pistons/Rings replacment

Plasma moly rings are forgiving of imperfections in the cylinder bore and are designed to seat almost immediately. I used these in an engine that I had used a ball hone on the original bores and these rings worked perfectly. No smoke at all upon startup or since, and no oil consumption.
