Classic Car Insurance

Hello all,
I've got my eyes on a restored 1970 C-10 and am wondering about Classic Car Insurance. Are there any companies out there that do not require a fully enclosed, locked garage in order to provide coverage? I'm still trying to decide what route to go. I live in a condo that has a private lot but no enclosed garage. I'm thinking of just adding the C10 to my regular insurance policy with the knowledge that should the worst happen, I would not recover my full investment.
It's still early on, just looking for other folks thoughts on the subject.

They all seem to require the vehicle in a garage for classic car insurance. I have an austin healey under resto in the driveway that I can't insure with a classic policy till its in the garage.

Using State Farm for my '69 long stepper. $96 a year. No garage, pictures, or comp values required.

Used haggerty but bought another suburban and wanted to tow with it. I mentioned the word camping and towing and you would think I dropped a bomb. There was silence followed by sorry but we cant insure you this year. You could try back next year. I said that I didn't know that I couldn't tow or camp with my suburban. I proceeded to call other classic car insurers and was told the same thin. I chose to use GEICO and use the truck as It was meant to be used. Costs me like $60 a month. Haggerty told me I cant even drive it to work, only drive it to shows and occasional parade. WTF!!! Good luck with your decision and be careful with what you tell them. On a positive note I didn't have to Garage Keep mine in NY.

I drive mine to work on Fridays and have no garage. None of the classic car insurance companies would insure me. Also, none of the major companies would give stated value either. As a result, I just have liability insurance through Geico. If I cause an accident, it was fun while it lasted.

Blue book value is still pretty good on my 71 suburban. Its like 15000
You can probably also raise up your coverag if its a custom build.

Yeah, maybe the standard insurers have coverage for custom cars that would cover the value?

I have state Farm for my 69 c20. Have comprehensive and stated value of 7000. I pay 40 a month. I just have to report my mileage twice a year to keep low milage discount.

Yes, you can have 'regular' insurance with an agreed upon value. I have my '65 Bel Air wagon this way, since it's my DD. No mileage restriction, no 'has to be garaged' etc. I told them the amount I wanted it covered for and they adjusted the rate based on that.

I had a tough time getting insurance for my 73 Chevy P10 step van. Through the process, I learned something I feel is important.

Stated value for most insurance companies comes with depreciation. Keep that in mind

Agreed value, which Haggerty does, has no depreciation.

Some classic car insurers only insures pristine classics.

Most classic insurance companies require a garage or a two sided car port.

I called the following companies: USAA, Progressive, Traveler's, State Farm, and Haggerty's.

In the end, I used Haggerty for an agreed value of $10,000. Sent a side picture and a rear picture. Paid $254 for an annual coverage. That's $21.17 a month with free unlimited flatbed towing for the first 60 miles.

I now have 4 vehicles insured through Hagerty's and couldn't be happier.

The 71 truck, 56 Chevy, 64 Impala SS and my 67 ramp truck all. The 67 ramp is the only one not in a garage and they covered it no questions asked. Valued at $10,000.00 sitting in my backyard fenced in. All 4 have 7-24 road service and up to $750.00 parts if I break down.
The other three are valued at $25,000.00 no deductable.

When my 70cst was trapped in the barn with the possibility of the barn caving/collapsing in - Hagerty paid to have equipment come in and lift the barn up so my tuck could be pulled out.

The have been 100% Trucker friendly.

They will spend up to 70% of the insured value to repair a vehicle that has been damaged.

Stated value means little. Agreed value you have a leg to stand on.

Be leary of Hagertys. They are great company UNTIL you have more than one claim. I found them to be dishonest and sneaky. I am now with Grundy.
