2.5" ram's horns in 82 2WD truck

Will std or aftermarket 2.5" ram's horns manifolds work in an 82 C10 2WD? My concern is the outlets will be too close to the cross member to install head pipes.

I really like these from Speedway.

I was going to go this route as well but was concerned about the starter on the passenger side. Just bought a new pair of manifolds from a '93 350 instead as they're reported to flow very well (plus are cheaper that coveted rams horns).

I have heard that the motor mounts are pretty close for these rams horns, but don't have any experience myself. Good luck

What are the dimensions of the port openings? Can you post a picture?

*** Never mind. I found what I needed. I've been looking at 97 manifolds, which are similar, but should fit the raised ports on my Vortec heads a little better,

Thanks.

I had 2" ramhorns in my 79 with a vortec 350 motor in it. Just barely worked, I doubt 2.5" will work at all.

Well, I just ordered a pair of Dorman stock replacement cast iron manifolds for 1996-2000 pickups with Vortec heads. I feel sure they will fit and clear everything, but I'll have to fabricate some head pipes, since they drop down in different places and angles than 81-87 trucks.

Bringing this back up... Looking at a 2wd 78 Blazer with a 1991 SBC 350. Has anyone run these aftermarket Rams horn manifolds with 2.5" secondaries?

Are there any clearance issued to the engine mounts, cross member or stater?

Stock ram horns are really tight. The Speedway aftermarket units are angled closer to the block which will prob only make things worse.

Re: 2.5" ram's horns in 82 2WD truck

Funny this thread I started came back alive.

After all my work fabricating head pipes for the 96-02 exhaust manifolds I mentioned above, I ended up installing full-length headers a year later!

The manifolds had 2-1/4" openings, but necked down to less than 2" inside. Same with the cheap mufflers I had, only they actually necked down to 1.5" inside. So I replaced them with Walker Dynomax Super Turbos with 20-inch case.

Anyway, the headers were a hassle to install, and I had to fabricate pipes to run over and under the crossmember (different on each side). However, leaks are an old wives tale, IMO, if you use good gaskets and hardware. Gotta say acceleration and throttle response are noticeably improved.

Also, a business manager friend tells me I can't worry about "sunk costs".

Those aftermarket trans x-members are worth their cost (~$80 + shipping) vs. the hassle of the OE under/over x-member.

Re: 2.5" ram's horns in 82 2WD truck

Hi There, might be a goofy question, but why do you want to use Rams Horns? I imagine you might get a little better flow with 2.5", but you also have to re route your spark plug wires (and use ridiculously long ones). I had a couple vehicles with Rams horns, and it seemed they "baked" the lower part of the valve cover gaskets because they came up high right beside them.

Cast iron doesn't warp or leak over time like headers tend to and the 2.5" ramhorns [which don't work in our trucks] flow better then oem log manifolds. The 2" ramhorns that barely clear don't improve anything but some prefer the looks.
