Tailgate band height

What is the height of the tailgate band that has woodgrain? I have an original tailgate with damage to fix, and it will lose some of the metal stamped letter area (will have to be smoothed). If the band covers the repair area well enough, I'd rather do that than an aftermarket tailgate.

Re: Tailgate band width

The width of the band covers the entire tailgate (side to side.)
And the height of the band is just a hair taller than the stamped letters.
I can get you an exact measurement if you need?

Re: Tailgate band width

Yes, I meant height (I'll try to change the title). A measurement would help.

Re: Tailgate band width

The stamped letters are 5" tall
The band is 6 1/2"
That gives you about 3/4" clearance above and the stamped letters, and 3/4" below.
It started raining here so these were quick measurement. But I figure if you can make your repairs to be about 1/2" above and/ or below the stamped letters, that would give you plenty of room to play with.
Hope this helps.

Re: Tailgate band width

Thanks so much. I was guessing around 6". Also, if you don't mind when you have time, how far is it from the upper edge of the band to the tailgate's body line/bend above it (I'm guessing 1/4")?

Re: Tailgate band width

I was just measuring an extra band that I have sitting in the shed. I have one installed on my Blazer but it is at my brothers house...
But here is a pic I found on Google images. (I have no idea who it belongs to) but you can see that it is pretty darn close to the body line. Name: IMG_0210.JPG
