They were stock right? Can any describe the factory assembly and how it works? Pics a bonus if possible.

Thank you

Re: Can anyone describe a kick down assembly?

The turbo 400s used an electronic switch to activate the kick down in the transmission. The turbo 350s used a mechanical linkage instead of an electronic switch

Re: Can anyone describe a kick down assembly?

That explains part of it, thank you. I see those items on my accelerator, which happens to be the next item I'm taking off. Other than the interior wiring, from there it goes to what, the transmission? Mine isn't hooked up.

Re: Can anyone describe a kick down assembly?

Perhaps:
Carb. connect?
Elect. to transmission?
Vacuum?

Re: Can anyone describe a kick down assembly?

one of the two wires goes through a firewall grommet and routes down to the trans connecting where shown below. the other wire goes up into a rats nest of wires under the dash (doesn't go through the grommet). that wire looks to be modified. i assume it's supposed to be a hot coming off the fuse block.

Re: Can anyone describe a kick down assembly?

Ha ha, one of the benefits of being hump-less. Thanks 68.

I had thought that plug at the transmission was for the transmission controlled spark. Perhaps it's dual purpose? My plug at the transmission has the orange wire from the accelerator, as you stated. That plug includes a black wire as well. The other side of the black was plugged into the unit on the left in this picture (above emergency brake cable). That said, someone did mess with that black wire, because there are two butt connectors. Perhaps the section was damaged at some point.

I welcome any corrections, but the relay on the LH (truck side) is the RELAY ASM CONT SW. It's the smaller of the two units. The unit on the RH (truck side) is the RLY ASM TRANS CONT SW DELAY. Both units are for TCS. At least that's my knowledge to this point.

Incidentally, if that's all there is to a kick down on a 71, I must have had a power or switch problem. It wasn't working.

Re: Can anyone describe a kick down assembly?

Does anyone know where the black wire to the transmission switch comes from, if other than what's described in the above post? I suppose mine could have been rerouted to the TCS relay. That and/or if not plugged into the TCS, which will no longer be installed, I assume the black needs to connect elsewhere. Appreciate any input.

In the meantime, I'll reflect back on the manual. They can be hard to read, but not impossible.

Re: Can anyone describe a kick down assembly?

This is what's on my transmission. See Fig. 6 T-27 Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 TCS Connection Terminal Identification
http://www.73spot.com/index_stats_fi...ission/tcs.htm

Post #3 is basically my connection at the transmission. His wire doesn't look black to me, though I'm a bit shade blind. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=679916

Post 2, 16 and 24: Obviously the guy has experience. Context can be un- certain.....That's the "beauty" of the web.............http://www.bangshift.com/forum/forum...-switch-wiring

Concerning the black wire connected to the transmission. I'm not proficient at reading schematics by any measure, but I believe that's 159D in the assembly manual. It's on a few pages, including 992 for transmission controlled spark (CTS), and I guess that's their way of saying it connects to the trans. on page 993.

My 72 402/400TH has just one wire to the transmission, which comes from the pedal assm. Obviously a different plug and transmission switch. It's not working either (go figure). The truck is new to me, but I seem to have lost kick down with the new carburetor install. Couldn't tell you, I didn't put on the carb, but I don't think it had any kick down linkage. The truck did have holes for the TCS relay and relay delay on the firewall, but they sealed them up.

Unless someone can advise otherwise, seems the connect at the transmission for a 1971 400TH was dual purpose or rather a mixed bag. Part kick down, part TCS.
