I want to replace the chassis of my series 2 55 chevy 3100. Has anyone done/accomplished this feat ...if so , how difficult was it to remove the cab .are there ant tricks,secrets etc I should know about ... I already removed the front clip ....any input would be greatly appreciated

I can't help on replacing the chassis, but i've removed the cab, bed, etc. I have a lift that i've used to remove the cab and bed with. here's a few pics. Hope this helps.

do u remember how many bolts held the cab to the frame ...any idea how heavy the cab is ? could a few guys lift it...I wish I had a lift in my garage ...that would be awesome ...at least I have a garage

there are just 4 bolts holding the cab... as for lifting the cab off 4 could have done it.... but I wanted 6 with fresh paint

After wiring is unplugged disconnected, steering column and box removed, heater lines, transmission shift lever, etc. Easier if doors are off, if your door gaps and hinges are good use a 1/8" drill bit thru hinges to use a pilot holes when reassembling. Like someone said search function is your friend, this has been discussed a lot before. MIght want to look at the various build thread to see how different chassis swaps affect the work you need to do and out come. Might be better to keep the existing frame and upgrade suspension. That has been discussed a lot too, search will pick up those threads.

I took the suspension off, put the frame on cheap rollers, cab on jack stands and rolled it right out!

Couple places on this site I found some guys' good ideas worked for me. Built a cheap 2x4 cab dolly using some leftover castors that the feet on my HF engine hoist would slip under. For cab lift, simple 2x4 rectangle with dogs on ends to avoid slide and cross brace in middle with holes drilled across it. Goes across between door holes and out sides a little up against inside top of cab. Mounted trailer hitch insert in end of hoist upside down with ball pointing up and tried in the strip of holes in center brace of frame until balanced. Lifts cab like a charm and moved over onto cab dolly, dropped and presto. Made cab dolly longer in front so can tilt up on the "angle" under front of my 51 AD with strut placed when tilted can work on bottom of cab too.

many guys use a 2X6 beem inside (just the cab) fit between the door openings and a engine hoist reaching in pushing up the beams the cab it self ways maybe 350lb

I used straps like that to lift my bed when I removed it. Works great.
