BBC 454 safe boring min.
Hello guys.
On my BBC Mark IV 454 I have just pulled the pistons and crank (and everything else ![]() I don't have access to a bore mic, but I will be getting it tanked this week and the engine builder said he would check it for runout. I just wanted to be armed with info (first time doing this) and not pay for more than I need. Thanks!! ![]() |

Bore it to the next available oversize piston. Usually .030 over. If it is worn with that much lip you will not have a good ring seal if you just try to hone and use the original pistons.

My Goodwrench rebuilt 454 has a brass ID plate on the side of the block that states it was bored .030 over. I don't know if that is good or bad, but Mr. Goodwrench liked it.
