1966 c10 ... Crazy vin number ...help

Hi guys,

I brought the title for the 66 I just picked up, I was going to decode the numbers while it was slow at work and the numbers do not come up anything like any of the decoders or the info on the site say they should.
My title is an official NC title, it states 1966 Chev TK but the VIN on the title starts with C6336A .......After digging for some time it looks like that is a 63 Impala wagon vin number?

Re: 1966 c10 ... Crazy vin number ...help

This keeps getting more confusing...
title VIN C6336A108537
Frame number seems to be 6B11676
none of which seem to be a 66 C10 but it all looks original ?

Have you looked to see if the title matches the plate on the truck?

Someone painted the top recently with an epoxy paint, the paint line is in the dead center of the door jam right where the cab vin plate should be, it looks like it was removed at that time! I did track down the man who is on the title in 1995, he says he sold that dump truck to a salvage yard.....UGH!!!

Re: 1966 c10 ... Crazy vin number ...help

So you have a 66 truck with no vin tag that looks all original with a frame that was made in Baltimore and a title for a dump truck built in Atlanta. I would say you have a problem. Not sure what to tell you to do next.

Re: 1966 c10 ... Crazy vin number ...help

Have you checked the motor vehicle laws in your state? Do you know any Police officers? Have any friends at the DMV? I wouldn't put another dime into this truck until you get the title issue figured out. If you are lucky you will end up with a reconstructed vehicle title and VIN plate. Is there any chance in getting your money back from the guy you bought this truck from?

Re: 1966 c10 ... Crazy vin number ...help

I met with the DMV inspector today, they ran the frame numbers and checked the title, nothing is coming back as stolen or missing, it looks like basically a cab swap. They are issuing the title under the Vin on the title I have! WHEW......

Good news, keep all the paperwork for future reference. And now - have fun with it.

Re: 1966 c10 ... Crazy vin number ...help

Mine hadn't been on the road for so many years that the last time it was registered was prior to computer records. For that reason, even though it was bought new locally, it was required to do an out of province inspection to make sure it was roadworthy. When that was accomplished and a few more bucks paid, it was successfully re-registered. Every state or province probably has slightly different rules.

Nice to see you are all legal with it.
