Engine noise driving me crazy

Took truck to shop which I thought was decent since I go to church with the owner. The motor was chattering which I was pretty sure was the roller rockers needed adjusting. Recently had motor out to clean up and paint. Put edelbrock e street heads on with 1.6 scorpion roller rockers. New timing set and all new gaskets. This is only the second motor I pulled and the first was with help from a friend who knew what he was doing. Adjusted rockers with motor out and help from you tube. just got it back in and running good but noisy. Took it in to get them adjusted and have them look at the brakes. 285 bucks later brake issue fixed but even runs worse with same noise. Got taller valve covers thinking maybe it was hitting the stock height covers. Same clacking from what sounds like #1 and #3. Got a piece of pipe and put to oil pan and it's definitely top end noise. Trying to post a video so I can get someone else's opinion. https://youtu.be/Zk9_5Bb3CaE

What method did you use to adjust the lifters?
Did you check to make sure you have the right length pushrods?

Re: Engine noise driving me crazy

Got arp pushrods that the heads called for can't remember exact length but longer than stock. When I initially set them with intake off was watching lifters on each cylinder and thought it was close but what bothers me is I took it to mechanic and still noisy. Seems like no power and get popping in exhaust at wot.

Valves are likely hanging open a touch.
Have you ever adjusted them while running?

No I'm assuming they did at the shop but I guess I'll be taking it back Monday morning. I'm learning as I go but just wanted someone else's opinion before I take it back up there

When I was up there he said something about cam bearing but it sounds like that is the rockers. What do you think

Cam bearing lol. Does sound like valvetrain but I aint there.
Apparently paying "mechanic" to fix was a waste of $$. Learn to do it on your own its not that difficult. Most mechanics today are parts-replacers, they dont know how to diagnose and tune an engine anymore.

Find a new mechanic. Even if it is a cam bearing why did he let it leave his shop in that condition? Did you change the cam when you put heads on?

Re: Engine noise driving me crazy

1. confirm valves are properly adjusted
2. Inspect roller rockers for interference - are they touching somewhere like the side of the valve retainer or bottomed on the rocker stud?
3. confirm the push rods are not hitting the push rod holes in the heads. If there is contact you should be able to adjust the guide plate for clearance.

Didn't change cam or lifters. Thanks for all the input going to look at it again tomorrow.
