It doesn't serve any purpose on our trucks, doesn't add any structural strength to the housing and just serves to get caught on the cross member when installing or removing.

I told myself when I yanked it all outta my truck (getting hung up numerous times in the process) that bugger was coming off before the tranny/engine combo goes back in!
