Fuel cell return line question.
Hey guys, making progress on the LSX swap on Project Arrogant Bastard. But I ran into a question I cannot seem to find the answer. I'm doing a return style fuel system. The fuel cell I purchased has two fitting on the top of the tank. From all of the info I've read is I need a return line to the bottom of the tank to avoid aeration of the fuel. My issue is the two ports on the top of the tank should be a vent and return. But neither has a "drop tube" to the bottom of the tank. So if I added my return line it would just be dumping in the top of the fuel.
I've found one company that sells a kit you have to drill a hole and bolt in a drop tube. Any ideas? Last edited by akatc; 03-03-2017 at 12:16 PM. Reason: Image size |

Re: Fuel cell return line question.
Are the fittings welded in? If not you can remove the filler assembly and remove the fitting and ad the tube. We did this on cells we ran with injected motors. Us a steel fitting and drill it for a 3/8 or 5/16" tube and silver solder or braze it in.

Re: Fuel cell return line question.
What are the two fittings at the bottom edge of the tank going to be used for?

Re: Fuel cell return line question.
My tank has the same two bungs in it- one for vent and one for return. My tank also has a divider in the middle running across the tank with foam in the back section near the sump. This prevents aeration- have not had a problem with this design at all. So if your tank has the same divider and foam, I would not worry about it.
The bottom two fittings at the bottom are fuel pickups. |

Re: Fuel cell return line question.
You need two fuel pickups? And two returns? Go easy now, i'm still carbureted.

Re: Fuel cell return line question.
If it has foam in it you will be fine.

Re: Fuel cell return line question.
I wouldn't worry about it since the vent and return bulkhead fittings are on the opposite side of the fuel pickup and it has baffling foam (I'm not a big fan of the baffling foam especially for EFI applications) . I would be more concerned with the size of the vent and return fittings as they relate to the volume of the fuel supply of your system.

Re: Fuel cell return line question.
It's hit or miss with the quality of the baffling foam, or dislodged particles created during production/installation waiting to be carried off by fluid. I have worked on many drag cars that had fuel delivery failures from foam particles clogging the pump and/or regulator(s). I just didn't take the risk and removed the foam from my fuel cell in my Super Gas drag car. If you keep the foam, run a good filter that is easily inspected and cleaned or element replaced between the fuel pick up of the cell and the pump. Is the 10AN fitting the fuel pick ups, or the vent and return ports?
