Frame Rust

So digging into my truck more and more, preparing for the rear notch, I found some pretty nasty rust on the frame near the rear cross member/spring perches. Have any of you had any success in repairing this? Can I just hack out the rust and weld in new metal? I am going to box the frame for reinforcement and obviously brace the frame really well before cutting anything out. Any advice/tips are appreciated. Thanks

This is a pretty common area where you find rust on these frames I actually cut off the whole rear frame section on mine and replaced it . Careful measurements and precise cuts is the key to make sure it is squared back up.

Thanks Larry! That was my original thought, that or the rear frame from No Limit. I am going to heavily modify the frame so I am not looking for a full stock rear frame, and mine is good everywhere except for parts of the frame rail. Each side has some rust on the bottom of the C channel and some on the vertical part. But the entire thing is not rusted. Can I just cut the rust out, back to good metal and then weld good metal in and then reinforce?

You can absolutely do that, that was originally what I was going to do but had a good rear section laying in the back so it was just as quick and easy to change it out.
