Opinions on towing with my truck

I just wanted to see if anyone has towed with their AD truck. Also looking for opinions if my suspension is up to the job.

My truck is a '51 with an LS1/4l60e and Ford 8.8 rear axle. The front suspension is Mustang II with QA1 adjustable coilovers. Rear suspension is trailing arms with QA1 adjustable coilovers and progressive rate springs (225-450).

I would like to tow my vintage camper and all my gear which is around 2300lbs. for everything.

I just don't want to build a hitch if it won't work. I appreciate any input.

Re: Opinions on towing with my truck

I don't see a problem with towing it as long as you put a good hitch on the truck.

Having towed two 16 ft travel trailers all over the PNW with mine in the 80's and early 90's I'd highly suggest getting a set of load leveling bars that also function as sway bars. Usually you can find a set on Craigslist pretty reasonable including the hitch piece.
Here's a nice setup in the PDX area for 150 that will handle far more than your trailer or anything you would tow but it would sure make towing the trailer with either rig a lot more pleasant. https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/pts/6159503435.html

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Opinions on towing with my truck

The weight distribution hitch is a good idea. I think the one in the link would be too big.

I also run a 5" drop hitch on my Honda Pilot since the trailer sits low. So I don't know if it would work on that.
