Is this the right thing to use to paint my cab?

Hi All!

I'm researching and planning to paint the inside of my cab in the near future. I have this airless sprayer. Will this be good for the job at hand? Also, can anyone recommend a good white paint? Duplicolor has their "championship white" which may be a little glossier than I want for my interior. Duplicolor says their paint is ready to spray and requires no mixing or reducing. Does anyone know of any other ready to spray paints that offer a wider range of colors?

That isn't going to work (not well at least). You really want a HVLP gun to shoot automotive paint. I would also recommend you use a 2k urethane paint rather than anything that is a 1k.

I agree, get a HVLP gun. It doesn't need to be a expensive gun to do what you are wanting to do. Harbor Freight has a couple that will do the job. And yes get a name brand automotive paint.

And it may go without sayin' but don't forget about getting the right respiratory protection for the paint you are using. Some paints are more toxic than others and basic cartridge respirators may not be adequate.

Though the technology/spray quality is improving on various airless sprayers like that, the resulting finish may be more attractive on your fence or patio furniture than it would be on your truck. This of course depends upon how critical you are and what look you are seeking.
I recently used an inexpensive airless sprayer to blow a bunch of paint onto a vintage camper that needed some love. Besides producing minimal overspray, it actually came out way better than I expected. Then again, my hopes were low to start. Had the camper not been treated to a coat of house paint in it's past, I would never have considered this as an option.
If you already own the sprayer, definitely give it a test on something else first. There's way too much work involved trying to undo a botched paint effort, not to mention the crazy cost of materials.

Just looked at a bunch of HVLP sprayers - they arent too expensive. I have a good compressor too. Only reason I thought I could use that machine I had posted about was because it was something available to me at work. I dont mind spending a few bucks to get a better finished product. I'm more worried about my ability to do a good job, regardless of the tool I use!

I've had good luck with the Harbor Freight guns, but you can NOT get parts for them! Which means do NOT screw up the nozzle gasket by prying it out to clean it!

I just flush them with lacquer thinner and leave the nozzle gasket alone.

It's kind of different to shoot, but it comes out real nice. The flat finish hides flaws, which the truck has not only from the factory, but the 52 years.



It seems durable. Time will tell.
The seat upholstery is the LMC $145 black vinyl one. I used the seat repair kit and end springs on the same catalog page- it worked out nice. Recommended, and I don't work there.

that's painting with a rattle can? holy cow, that's amazing.

It took 9 cans, didn't do the area under the seat. The paint is metallic and looks flat like in the pics, but in direct sun it's like pearl sparkle.
The dash got 3 coats.

The purple spray gun with the attached air pressure regulator from Harbor Freight works great for it's price. Whichever paint you get make sure you thin/add hardener as recommended on can.

And the Harbor Freight respirator works very good. Easy to breathe in and filters extremely well.
