Can i paint my gas tank black?
I was thinking about painting my gas tank black but a good friend of mine said it was a bad idea because he said that the color black absorbs heat and that could be dangerous as far as gas tanks are concerned. Any validity to his concerns or are they unwarranted?
I think they are unwarranted, but I will freely admit that I do not know everything. |

Funny since all cars and trucks that use plastic tanks now are black in color.

Re: Can i paint my gas tank black?
Your friend has a good point about painting the tank black...if it was in direct sunlight that would be a issue...under a truck in the shade not so much...like stated..factory plastic tanks are black..I painted mine black..no issues there..

actually there was a test that they did with a turbo intercooler.. The black one had a lower temperature than the normal aluminum colored one.

Re: Can i paint my gas tank black?
I tried bedliner spray. Looked good up until the install. Any leaking gas from connecting the hoses, etc, ate away the spray liner. Hopefully it won't eat away a paint job! Just put some care when installing and wiping dry the fuel before it drips down the sides and bottom.
