steering cotter pin

On the pitman arm, the arm that comes off of steering box ,where it bolts to linkage should there be a castlated nut and cotter pin?
I have a 1980 GMC 1/2 ton frontend and there is no hole for cotter pin . When I tore it down i thought there was one but now no hole. I thought pin sheared off in hole and i couldn't see it.
But I can't find it. Any pics would help . I swapped front end to 1970 c10.

I've replaces my box and I didn't have a cotter pin or a castle nut on there. I just tightened up the nut that was on there.

That is for the nut that holds the arm on the steering box. The nut on the other end is not torqued as much.
