1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
I have a 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup that i special ordered in 1965. I am currently just starting a restoration on it. It is totally original and when i pulled the engine(327 v8 H/O) to have it overhauled i discovered that it has a Roller Cam? I was not aware that engines of this vintage had roller cams. I have owned it since new so i know it came from the factory like this. I have been unable to get any information on this. Can anyone help me with this? This Truck was ordered with Powerglide Trans, Power Steering and 12 bolt Posi Differential.
I have been getting some smart ass replies and am sick of it. I will turn 80 in January and am not trying to impress anyone. If you cannot reply positively please do not reply at all. I have given my information as best that i can. I purchased this new and it is all as it came from the factory. Last edited by salty531; 09-11-2017 at 06:35 PM. |

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
Hmmm an engine in a C10 that even the Corvette did not come with and was not built for another 20 years. Interesting.
Or did you mean to say "hydraulic" cam?

Nice truck! Keep it original. Is that the factory dash unit? I thought the bezels up until 66 were black, and went to silver in 66?

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
It must have been a end of the Model Year 65 if it is registered as a 65. I didn't think a 327 was available until 66.

That truck isn't for you. I'll be heading down there to take it off your hands.

Look very nice. I'd like to see your build sheet about the year and engine.
You have a cool history as well.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
The Machine shop guy calls it a Roller Cam. I ordered it in 1965 but it was a 651/2. That is why i was able to get the 327 v8. I do not have any pictures of the Motor at this time. The build sheet was under the seat but fell to pieces trying to remove.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
It is a 65 1/2. Ordered late in 65. I was working for a Chevy dealership while going to school and special ordered this truck. Everything is from the factory.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
The Machine shop guy calls it a Roller Cam. The Machine shop has been in business for two generations and the owner is getting ready to retire. He has seen a lot of these engines and said that this is only the second one he has seen. He said it is very rare! He also mentioned some pins in the Crank journal effectively making it a 4 bolt main configuration.

What would be the purpose of the Vacuum gauge?

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
The tach would have a function. Unusual that GM would install the vacuum gauge without a purpose.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
Can you get a pic of the cam and the lifters? That'll clear up the whole "roller cam" question.
I'm not one to say "never," but as a tech editor for a Chevy magazine, and tech editor and freelance writer for several other magazines over the years, I have never heard of a factory roller cam in any Chevy vehicle from the '60s. -Brad
