Narrowed or not, if they're built for the application, installed properly and the resulting roller is aligned even close, the thing should not eat tires.
If it's not the parts or the install then it's the adjustments post install or some sort of use pattern that isn't compatible. Could also but very unlikely be the tires or even the wheels. Very unlikely. Hth, -klb
