Timing for a 383?

Can you guys please let me know what you set your timing at with a 383 stroker. Having a little overheating issue so was just wondering if maybe my timing is way off. Thanks.

Mine likes 14 initial, 34 total, with a heavy advance spring kit. it's a 10:1 motor, alum heads, about 230 degree cam on a 110 LSA.

But as suggested above it has everything to do with cam, compression, head material and design, etc. I would recommend starting low (about 10 initial, 30 total) and creeping up on it. If it doesn't run better with more timing, there's no reason to add it. total timing is more important than initial.

You using ported or manifold vacuum? Engine will generally run cooler, especially at idle with manifold vacuum.

You sure you are not running lean? Check your plugs.

My 400's like 12-14° initial and 36-38° all in by 3000 and no vacuum because the intake fitting hits the vacuum pot

Vortec heads like 32 degrees total , you dont have those , my 383 with procomp heads and a 270 hr cam like 36 degrees of total timing , 12 degrees initial , it pulls like a train , be carefull you are not lean on fuel either as this can cause overheating , and pinging
