front break rotors 6 lugs question 87- 91
hello fellow chevy gurus... once again here with another question...
I currently have a set of drop spindles from cpp 73-87 with rotors 5 lugs, going into my 69 c10.(not yet installed) I would like to change the rotor to 6 lugs so I don't have to bother with the changing the rear differential. I know I can just call cpp and order the rotors but money is tight. today at the junk yard I found a 91chevy Silverado ss with 6 lug front rotors, I measured them and compared them with my current rotors on the rotors and spindles from cpp and they seem to be the same size bolt pattern 6x5.5 and same rotor size 12 inch disc. I am wondering whats the difference between the years 87 to 91 brake rotors 6 lugs and if I can use them on my 73-87 spindles. and is there other vehicles I can find them on. thank you fellows.. |

Re: front break rotors 6 lugs question 87- 91
I believe the ones you found are metric. Any 71-87 K5/K10 wheel will work if you're seeking 6 lugs wheels that will clear 71 and newer stock disk brake calipers. Not THAT easy to find, but there was a full set on the parts board very recently - don't know if they sold. Generally speaking, these wheels have 4 nubs for cap retention - the 3 nub are generally 70 and older and don't clear calipers. Keep in mind you really need FIVE of these wheels because your current spare, if it is stock 69, won't fit over disk brake calipers.
If you bought the 5 lug rotors from CPP, I would imagine they'd exchange for 6 lug for minimal restocking fee - or for no cost. All assuming you bought them fairly recently. Having said all that, the rear diff 5 lug kit they offer may be more cost effective than buying (and shipping) a set of steelies that will clear calipers. Regardless, your stock 6 lug wheels will not clear calipers - so, you're gonna have to do SOMEthing about wheels whether you find 6 lug rotors or do a rear diff 5 lug kit install. |

Re: front break rotors 6 lugs question 87- 91
jocko thank you so much for the info, so my stock 6 lugs are standard? I like the 6 lugs all around, except that I want to convert my front brakes to disc instead of drums... and like I said the set up the I have spindles, rotors from cpp 73-87 are 5 lugs. I wil given a call and see what their prices are.
thank you again |

Re: front break rotors 6 lugs question 87- 91
I was told and from my research if you have spindles for a 73-82?? with 1.25" wide rotors you can get rotors for a 89 2500 7200lb GVW. Raybestos part #105973
I have not personally done this but I will be doing it in the next month or two.
