Is this cab scrap?

Ok we'll I started to do some rust repair on my 67 cab and found a mess. The cab corners are shot. No problem. Rockers gone. No problem. Cab roof rusted around drip rails. Not ideal but ok. Passenger upper door frame on cab non existent. We're getting more serious. Finally the cab metal under the lower cowl is in bad shape and some around window frame. Now I'm second guessing myself if this cab is worth repairing. Not sure how I'm gonna fix the rust under cowl? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

You're in Texas- I would find a better cab. I think you'll regret not looking for a better one when you're in the middle of trying to fix this cab

x2. It would be to far gone for me. Cut it up and sell some patch panels.

Re: Is this cab scrap?

I hate to see a 67 small window go to scrap... but man, that's crusty. You'll have to make some of those rusty panels or do a roof swap.

Re: Is this cab scrap?

I hate to see any of these trucks scrapped, but I would look for another. If you have have a great welder and patience you can fix it. Just will take some time and patience..

Re: Is this cab scrap?

I can tell you from past experience, You can locate a rust free cab from the southwest, go get it and end up with less money in it than you can fix that one. Now with that said, what you do depends on your budget and your timeline. From the pics of your cab, I see many hours labor and several dollars in repair panels.
For reference, in my case I loved the history of my truck and wanted to preserve that cab---expensive choice. Cost me right at $3000. just to make my Cab rust free. At that time I could have bought a rust free cab in Phoenix, pulled my trailer out to get it, paid food, lodging, gas-----and saved nearly half of what it cost me. (when I made the decision to keep my cab, I didn't know the complete extent of the rust).

Re: Is this cab scrap?

Go out to west TX and find a good cab. Last time I was down there, they were around. You could spend a ton of time and $ to get your current one right.

Thanks for all the input! I'm going to look at a cab Saturday. Hopefully it's as good as he says.

Re: Is this cab scrap?

The British restorer JadeMuttley has a series of rust repair videos that I found helpful. His approach was the main thing.. he just picks the worst spot; outlines about a six-inch by three-inch sections of it; makes a paper template; cuts out the bad section; and then hand-forms using his vise and workbench a small repair piece out of mild steel (20 or 22 gauge).

Once he has that piece welded in (Mig) and ground down and primed; he moves on to the next worst section.

Amazing to me how a situation that can initially look hopeless is changed by just one or two of those worst spots getting fixed.

Here's a link (wait ti he gets to the trunk on that Vitesse if you think yours is bad)..

Re: Is this cab scrap?

Definitely beyond what I would feel comfortable with as well. But the rear window section looks to be in pretty good shape - you might cut that out to use or sell. Make sure you cut large enough to cover the large rear window area.

Re: Is this cab scrap?

at least when you go look at the new cab you will know the areas to look for the rust. I went through three cabs before I found one that was useable with the normal cab corners and rocker panels.

Re: Is this cab scrap?

Well I looked at a cab yesterday. No luck. It was worse when than mine. So as Bobby Bouchée says "the search continues".
