Possible Purchase 2 Vetting Help Please
Can you guys take a look at this truck and let me know your thoughts ASAP.
I may be able to strike a deal I can live with but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything. I'd fly there, Inspect, Buy if Good and Drive home. But, I do not want to go through that effort until I run it by you guys. As always, thanks in advance! Here's what I know (sellers description): 1970 Chevrolet CST Pick Up in original condition. Originally from the Pacific northwest out of Oregon. Truck spent the majority of it's life there before being brought to NY 5 years ago. This truck has been meticulously maintained and came from the factory with rare options. CST stands for Custom Sport Truck, not a camper special but was ordered with these options: RV mirrors L and R,Front Stabilizer, HD rear springs, brake booster, turbo hyrdromatic tranny, wheel covers, HD step bumper, HD front springs, Positraction and dual tanks, also has tonneau cover . Along with the truck comes 25 years of service records, the original owners manual and original warranty with the protect-o-plate. The truck is in excellent condition mechanically, strong running 350 and everything is in working condition. The body is in excellent condition with some surface rust and nice patina on the bed. It does have a few dings and dents here and there but the body is rock solid, rockers, cab corners, underneath doors and door jambs are all solid, there is no rot on this truck anywhere. The interior is all original with the original carpet, seats have normal wear but are in excellent condition. All the glass is good. The truck runs and drives perfectly, used as a daily driver in fair weather. Wheels are wrong. Has "Chevy Lean" (rear of cab) Wrong Air Cleaner & Valve Covers Last edited by vespaholic; 01-11-2018 at 11:35 AM. |

Re: Possible Purchase 2 Vetting Help Please
Before I flew in and bought my C10, I found a classic car appraiser online in the sellers area to go look at the truck for me. He spend a few hours, spoke with me on the phone, and sent me a report. It have me the confidence to get on a plane with a cheque.

Alrighy. Well, I love the truck and would love to have it in my garage. I'm not enough of an expert to spot anything original or non original from the photos. The documentation is great. Good luck!

Re: Possible Purchase 2 Vetting Help Please
appears to be a better than average truck. rust free is a major factor. if priced right I would buy it.

Looks like a pretty solid truck. Depending on the price I don't see how you can go wrong. LockDoc

Re: Possible Purchase 2 Vetting Help Please
Ok so far so good.
That appears to be a pretty nice, original truck. I have a few things that would push me a little further on this. 1st) There might be a member here on the site within a reasonable drive distance that might be willing to take an hour or two and check it out for you for a minor fee?.....you never know, we are a pretty helpful bunch, lol 2nd) The truck looks good, but this is tied to what he is asking for it. In my opinion this truck should definitely be under $10K asking price...but north of $5k. I would estimate a fair value (based on pics) somewhere in the vicinitiy of $6500-$7500 (...important point: that is 'west coast' pricing. things might be different out east?) Always be certain that there will be things about the truck that will surprise you and you won't necessarily like, be happy with or want to change. So always keep some of your budget ready to 'put things right'....might be $500-$1000.....you just never know. Regardless, that is a nice find (so far)....so keep us posted on where you are at in all of this. All good Coley

Re: Possible Purchase 2 Vetting Help Please
I think that's about as close to rust-free as you're going to get for an original truck. I love the documented history. If the price is right I would definitely go for it.

Re: Possible Purchase 2 Vetting Help Please
Thanks guys.
I really dig original cars/trucks and not so much restored stuff. A couple battle scars are cool to me, just not beaten to death. I'm only looking at long bed trucks, so that's good. 4-Speed would be better but.... So, all in all it will meet my needs. I just figured I'd run it by the experts here first. Anyone else have any thoughts?? In your opinion what is it worth??? @Coley: I saw you note after I posted this. East coast rust free originals seem to be more than west coast. Supply?? Not sure. |

Re: Possible Purchase 2 Vetting Help Please
This truck has what I think is a dealer installed 2nd gas tank.
You can see the filler on the bed near the standard filler. I'm going to ask the seller if it's fiberglass. If it is, I'm out. Anyone know how these work? Is there a valve or switch typically installed or does one tank fill the other automatically? Thanks |

Re: Possible Purchase 2 Vetting Help Please
There is probably a switch on the floor between the seat and sill plate. If the filler neck on the bed side doesn't bother you then I wouldn't worry about that extra tank. You can easily bypass it and go back to factory with the cab tank.

Re: Possible Purchase 2 Vetting Help Please
Complete truck, decent body, looks good, interior clean, solid seat and dash. Maybe new carpet, Hope it runs as good as it looks. You can't build 1 for that price...Good Luck.
