Rear Brake Lines On Drivers Side?
Afternoon all,
I am finally getting to the phase of running all new brake lines for my project. I opted for NiCop lines since they come so highly recommended. My question is, why is the rear brake line on the passengers side? I had planned on running mine down the driver side to keep the line away from the headers. Is there a reason they are on the passengers side? |

the "Tee" on the rear axle is on the passenger side. If you go down the driver's side the rear brake hose will not be long enough unless you cross the line over some where.

Re: Rear Brake Lines On Drivers Side?
My rear end is a 72 (tee on the top of the axle, my panhard x-member is from a 70 (no provisions for the hard to flex line fitting, 70 brake lines come from the pass side shock x-member) and my truck is a 72. It's a bit of a hodge podge. I'm planning on using a 72 flex line from the axle to the panhard x-member. I'm going to mount the line to the panhard x-member.
My plan was to run the brake line down the drivers side of the frame and back to the panhard x-member. I was just curious as to why it came down the passengers side on the 71-72 trucks. I've attached a reference image of the 71-72 setup where the lines come back to the panhard x-member. |

Gotcha, mine are 4x4's so I was thinking leaf rear ends. On mine the line terminates on the pass frame rail just in front of the rear axle. Driver's side frame rail should work fine for your setup.
No idea why GM ran them down the pass side. |

Re: Rear Brake Lines On Drivers Side?
Mine was a leaf truck too and it made sense why it was over there. It seems like there is no reason it ran down the passenger side, but there has to be a reason. GM Engineers didn't use a couple extra feet of brake line on every truck for the hell of it.

Re: Rear Brake Lines On Drivers Side?
driver side has electrical, E-brake cable, speedo cable, clutch linkage, shift linkage for 3spd and auto and 6 cyl exhaust is always on that side.
On Pass side, the brake line can share fuel line clamps.
