Most popular color? ...thoughtful opinions.
First, I'm not up on how to do a poll on this so maybe we can just start by doing this manually.
Ok.....in your opinion what is the most popular color of truck in the '67-72' models....or at least the top 3 colors. By this I mean, what color is likely to attract the most people to it? Red?....Black?.....White?.....Blue?.....Silver? (I'm going to guess purple won't be on the list....lol) Would they be period correct colors?....or modern colors and why? Now, everyone has their own personal taste....but even a lot of individuals know that their taste might not be the most popular color out there. So....to kick things off....I'm going to make a guess and say Red would be one of the top ones. Why?....period correct (more or less), not overly common these days, and it really shows well on these trucks. (note: that I haven't yet taken into account the two-tone colors...which might have a bearing on this) Any opinions on this? all good Coley

originally - green
Everything from gumby green (light green) to a dark forest green since then - blue or black would be my guesses |

Re: Most popular color? ...thoughtful opinions.
There's only two correct answers.
If you mean "when new", the answer is green. If you mean "now", the answer is DK BLU POLY. Best color made. I mean look at this, it's a factory truck color from 50 years ago and what a nice look it is... Now I =suppose= there could be other opinions, and you could argue color choice is subjective. But I'm pretty sure I'm right ;-)

Re: Most popular color? ...thoughtful opinions.
If you do a simple image google search on "72 Chevy truck", the majority of the images on the first page are of blue trucks in various shades and configurations. I would say that at least 1/4 of the pics are of blue trucks with red, green, black and orange/gold being pretty popular too.
Even though I am painting my truck white over gray over white over gray, I think the white and medium blue two tone paint jobs are the most popular given the side trim. No trim, then the all red is up there and if you want to get a little custom, I'd say that the bronzey/coppery colors with plenty of metal flake looks great!

Re: Most popular color? ...thoughtful opinions.
My personal preference is the deluxe two-tones of Medium green and white, medium bronze and white and ochre and white. Medium red, hugger orange and medium blue are all great colors too.

Re: Most popular color? ...thoughtful opinions.
I have several of these trucks and my Medium Red gets the most attention but my Medium Blue unrestored 72 4x4 gets lots of attention too.

Two tone Hugger Orange and White is my personal favourite. Ochre is pretty iconic for these trucks, though.

Around here the early 508 dark blue is popular, also favorite og color.
Hugger orange is a close second. Posted via Mobile Device |

Most popular: Blue, Black and Red. It doesn't have to be "Factory" colors of the year of the truck. On a personal not: I'm very partial to 2-tone trucks. Again, in my ever so humble opinion, 2-tones really brings out the design of our trucks. If you're going to paint your Truck or you're looking to select a color scheme for your truck. I think Red is a great color (again, I'm a little biased). But I enjoy our trucks in, almost, ALL colors. (Purple don't float my boat)

I am biased but I'm going with blue, green and ochre. I loved the seventies colors ...... I miss my avacado kitchen.

Re: Most popular color? ...thoughtful opinions.
They don't call it resale red for nothing. Black is clean. Blue one of the most popular colors. Orange is the new black. Ochre and white is nice, but blue would be my bet.

Re: Most popular color? ...thoughtful opinions.
My understanding is that in 1972 Ochre was popular, and thats what my uncle Loyd bought new. Now that I own it, and have a say so, Ochre makes me think of baby poop so it will most likley become 2 tone medium blue and white. I wanted red and white forever but I just cant quit thinking about that B/W combo.

Back when I was having to sell my stuff off, every time I had a truck for sale someone would come to look and I swear every one of them would take a glance at the one for sale real quick, then look at the blue and white K/20 and ask "Is that one for sale?". Finally, I ended up keeping the white GMC and selling the Chevy because that's what people wanted and I sure don't hate my GMC. But the Chevy was my keeper. And the GMC had a blue interior with lower trim "All you need to do is put upper trim on and this one could have the same paint", but people want it NOW these days. No vision. Mine even looked good with wagon wheels, in my mind. Was going with the era for an old fixed up survivor look with the original paint (and to get a buy 3 get one free deal on 16")

Re: Most popular color? ...thoughtful opinions.
I personally believe the most iconic, recognizable, popular 67-72 color is white with med red in deluxe two tone. When I had one exactly like that, people would say “hey my uncle had one JUST LIKE THAT”. Since then, when driving a different color, people often say “my grandfather had one JUAT LIKE THAT, except it was red and white two tone”.
