1972 Cheyenne C10 Ground Straps

Did the 72 with 350 use engine ground straps? When I pulled the engine, I didn't find any grounds. If yes, where did they attach and how many. I thought I had seen the rear of the heads attaching to the firewall, but I can find no documentation of that.

I can tell you that my 72 with a 350 had at least two ground straps when I pulled the motor, but I can not tell you where they go, it's been too long since. My guess is one goes to the firewall and the second goes to the frame, but where exactly - I don't recall.

The negative battery cable goes to the passenger side head and there's 2 ground straps that go from the firewall to the rear of the valve cover on each head

Also:
- Battery to passenger fender (almost all GM truck have this).
- Driver side of the engine to the frame

Re: 1972 Cheyenne C10 Ground Straps

To clarify on the battery cables, both have a 2nd smaller wire that comes off of them. Not sure if this applies to all years or not, but the smaller negative cable wire attaches to the core support. On my 72 specifically, it attaches to the same bolt behind the battery box that's used to ground the headlights. The smaller wire on the positive cable goes to the junction box on the passenger fender with a fusible link. Here's a good thread with pics of all the original ground locations. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=487363
