new to board

A friend of mine...(on this board) told me about this site, after calling him about my interest in buying an old Chevrolet truck. I have been watching the Craigslist finds and sending him emails, text messages and links to possible trucks to buy....I'm surprised he didn't put me on his block list! Well i finally purchased a truck with his help and guidance

Re: new to board

Going to replace the bed and drive it. My brother just drove it from Austin to Houston and he said it drove like a champ.

On a funny note, he said people were yelling at him nice truck in Houston. I told him here people will be yelling at me red neck

Re: new to board

I think you will find your wrong about the red neck part.

Allow an extra five minutes when you stop for gas, because you will have to answer questions like, what year is that, did you buy It new, is it for sale?

At stop lights, somebody will give you a thumbs up.

You will find yourself wasting hours on here, trying to inform your self of everything about the truck.

Welcome to the madness.

Re: new to board

Thanks everyone for the kind greetings and encouragement. As i was driving to work this morning I saw in a business parking lot a beautiful white 1969 short-bed step side. Who ever owns it put some serious money into it. I'm going to stop in on my way home and see if i can speak with the owner....and ask if i can get a picture to post??

And from speaking to the owner the truck is 100% original. All though i suspect it has been repainted at some point due to a teal color blue under the green paint were it has been chipped.

Great looking truck. From someone who grew up in Maine, you are well aware those trucks rusted out quickly back when they were new. Enjoy your purchase and keep it out of the salt up there!

Re: new to board

On a bad note: My friend in the office bought a truck from a guy in Florida (1965 GMC) looked great in the pictures and pictures on the lift. It was delivered yesterday and he brought it in for an inspection today. The person doing the inspection was very familiar with old vehicles and found bondo and shoty work through out. I'm going to say he paid a premium for that truck to boot!

Re: new to board

Truck looks wonderful.A few notes I will add for safety.Check all wires under dash.Because sense I've owned a few of these is 35 year old wires Never seem to hold up well.Re pluming it with new wire harness is not to bad to think about and if you want better Spark and better mileage running a HEI would do you better.Nothing bad on older people. But trucks sit for a while and not be driven.I take the radiator out and have it rodded out and do all the safety stuff to make sure the truck is up for long drives.

Other then that enjoy your New Love. You wife will not be happy.Unless its for her then she will love you always

You know my wife She doesn't like anything that has a gas smell, so she doesn't join me often when I drive my old vehicles. The truck is sitting at my brother's house in Houston as i'm getting shipping quotes. The picture of the original owner, was owner #1 in Georgia. I bought the truck from Owner #2 who lived in San Antonio Tx. He states he changed the wiring and put in front wheel disc brakes. Truck was driven with no problems from San Antonio to Houston...the only thing the driver complained about was no a/c. Always taking a chance buying online unseen, I'll update this thread hopefully in about another week when the truck arrives. But with my friends help, pictures and speaking to the gentlemen ,I had some what comfort on making the deal....fingers crossed.

Re: new to board

You don't have to worry about no a/c in New Hampshire. It's hot in South Texas and humid. You'll be just fine up there. Enjoy your new ride!! Welcome to the board. Lots of great people on here. Cruisin with windows down youll get lots of thumbs ups and be able to hear all comments. Will take longer to put gas though. Enjoy!

Forget the shipping quotes, that looks like a fun road trip to me.

There are plenty of us that will support you along the way, in the event you do have problems.
