Re: Our Trucks Doing What They Did - Vintage Photo Thread
The suburban pic brings back memories. Drove one from Ca to New York when i had to go there to enlist in the USAF. Myself and two other drove and lived out of it for several weeks on the long trip across the US . Poor thing had developed a rod knock after a cruise on Hollywood Blvd in early 1969. (the oil breather fell off and ran low on oil. 45 MPH was max speed before the knock scared the H out of us. I left it at my cousins place in Seneca Falls NY and understand it wound up as a farm feed bin somewhere near by. It had a surfboard on the roof and a black and white striped rear bumper. Doubt it survived but if seen or remembered drop me a line.

Re: Our Trucks Doing What They Did - Vintage Photo Thread
That is great, reminds me of my childhood spent with my grandfather. Everything we did was out of the back of a truck. Fishing or working we spend many hours in the back of a truck and very little time at the house, let alone at the computer.

Re: Our Trucks Doing What They Did - Vintage Photo Thread
That car in the foreground is the Buick "Y job" that Harley Earl drove to work! Harley Earl was the head of the GM design studio from around 42-58. I saw that car in person recently at a museum near me. I went over twice to see it, those concept cars from GM are huge in my world, damn they were some cool stuff.

Re: Our Trucks Doing What They Did - Vintage Photo Thread
One of the coolest things on cars I have ever seen at a museum was an actual engineering dept layout on a 50 Chevy car fender. It was life size and had the dimensions of the fender and every single curve and stuff on it so it could be made using that flat piece of paper for reference! Never saw anything like it being I am not an educated dude, this was new to me and fascinating. I don't remember where it was, some little tiny museum on interstate 40 or New Mexico or Kansas I don't have a clue. But damn I wish I had gotten a photo of it at least.

After Truck Engineering was kicked out of Chevy Central Office (in the early 1980's, maybe) we were scattered to a dozen different little engineering houses throughout Southeast Michigan. If you needed to look at a drawing you first had to figure out which job shop it was located in, and then you had to hop in your car and drive over there (to Northfield, or Clawson, or Modern Engineering) and then try to find the drawing either in the cubby hole where it was kept, or in use on someone's desk or drawing table. Now we can just pull it up from the convenience of your laptop, whether at your desk or from the comfort of your barcalounger, in 3D. Much nicer (and naturally more efficient). K

This is a cool one!
Not sure if this is bigger. The original was huge and I haven't been able to figure out how to post it that way. Brian ![]()

Too cool! It looks like most of the homes where I live, except better maintained and with less garbage around.
