Chrome plating am radio

I have several am radios. A few work and others don't. None of them have a chrome as nice as I'd like.
I emailed and called around for a shop willing to do such a small job and also for a decent price.
I found a small family owned plating shop in St. Louis which as been in business a long time.
http://stlplating.com
They will chrome plate each face for $25 a piece.
I'll post results once I get them back. Sounds like they do everything from bicycle parts to hot rods.

I will keep them in mind.
I have a couple of radios myself.
I'll be watching.

Re: Chrome plating am radio

I'll definitely follow up with pics and write up on the quality of work.
The only other shop that agreed to do such a small project wanted $175.

Re: Chrome plating am radio

I got my am radio faces back from the chrome plating shop
They did a fantastic job and look great.
At $25 a piece you can't beat the price. Other shops I emailed wouldn't do such a small job and the only other shop that agreed wanted $175 for one piece.
Two of them I sanded the pitting out of and worked up To 800 grit wet sand before sending them out.
The third I left original and only very very slight pitting shows up. Basically hard to see but I would recommend sanded them First if pitted
Freindly staff and good communication
Highly recommend

Yeah. I emailed about 15 shops. None of them interested in small jobs.

Just for reference, how much do you figure you have in each one with the postage both ways and the plating? I have about 10 radios and I would probably pick the best ones to have done.....

Re: Chrome plating am radio

Thanks for posting the results Mark. I'll send mine off also. They show to have a 50. dollar minimum so I'll scrounge something else up that could use a re-plating.

Re: Chrome plating am radio

Looks like some nice work at an affordable rate. Used to be several plating shops in and around the Wichita, Ks. area but one by one with the EPA's help they all bit the dust.
