1963 c10 speedo question...three broken needles...

I decided to tear down the dash and wipe it up and replace bulbs... Look for the speedo needle that I thought had popped off. Dash rattled a little and I found 3 broken needles. Anyone have a clue what might have caused that? I don't know if I should get a needle.... Or a new speedometer.. Previous owner didn't tell me anyrhi g. Of course he put in a new sending unit and used the old float with a hole In it, so he isn't too relliable.

Re: 1963 c10 speedo question...three broken needles...

If the bushings in the speedometer are shot, or the internal wick is out of oil, or it is just plain dirty, the speedometer will start thwocking the needle up against the top of the scale at normal speeds. I disconnected my 66 before it broke the needle off.

It probably needs to go to a speedometer shop.
