big block headers

i am putting together a lowered 1970 chev truck i want to know which big block headers are the best for the price and fit well .

jp, I am assuming you want some headers that fit a pickup, and that don't hang below the frame, much???

yes i am checking with others before i buy we have poor streets where i live not made for lowered trucks lol ...has any one used patriot headers ?

I used hedman mid length on mine. They were coated and fit and look good. Collector is at the frame pointing down, pipe attached and bends parallel to the ground. Sound good too!!!

I have Doug’s headers. Fit ok....not great. Quality is good. The collector alignment is poor so it’s tricky to line up the exhaust.

Look at dorman repop factory iron bbc hi po cast iron manifolds off a vette.

Did you use these on a BBC engine in a truck? If/when I replace the engine in my truck I'd rather get manifolds that flow well instead of hearing noisy header "pinging".

If they fit in a car engine bay they will easily fit a truck and they flow great especially with some die grinder work plus they wont heat up the floor. All headers leak.........changing plugs stinks too not to mention starters

I have a set of the big block ‘vette manifolds bolted to my motor on the stand right now. They MIGHT fit in a truck. My plan is to run them even if I have to slightly trim the frame and angle mill and spot face the bolt holes on the manifolds. I think passenger side is where clearance issues will be, but I will find out....

Whenever I can make the swap happen, I’ll post a thread. But they don’t hug the motor as tightly as the passenger car/truck manifolds.

I'll not be doing any engine replacement any time soon, unless it blows up. I'd like to see the results when you do get to it!

I used Patriot Clippster Headers H8013-1, purchased from Summit racing. I've had them now for close to 10yrs with no quality issues.

The only issue I had was during installation and one side... can't remember if it was the drivers or passenger side, but one header tube was contacting my 1972 only factory clamshell style engine mount. I had to trim the clamshell slightly to clear the header, but it wasn't a big deal.

If you're using 71 and earlier big or small block mounts you shouldn't have any issue, but I'm not positive.

I moved my bbc back and down, so didn't know which headers would work. I took a chance and ordered American Racing headers for late sixties Chevelles. They are full length, and use 2" primary tubes. I had to do a little grinding on the passenger upper frame rail for clearance. The primary tubes tucked behind the lower A arm suspension, since the engine was relocated back about 4". (got lucky) I fabricated my own motor mount stands, so no issues there. The headers came with some ball type couplers for the collectors which I cut off and tigged on SS V clamps. The collectors hang about 2" below the frame because my engine is dropped about 1". The truck is static dropped for a nice stance, and I have not touched the headers yet on speed bumps. So far working well. Headers are stainless steel raw mill finish. I gave them a little Scotchbrite stroking.

I don't think the vette ones fit. I think Randy500 tried and had a write up about that, I believe they hit the engine mounts.

I am running Sanderson's and fit great. So far no leaks, and I just change plugs last night with no problems.
