Found a rusty K-5 this time

Known about this one for quite awhile. PO used to plow with it. Drove by a couple of days ago and it is in his yard without the plow. Left my calling card and behold...
Pretty rusty, but seems to run decent and has a lot of good parts yet.
Even found the protecto plate in the glovebox.
Not a FS thread... Enjoy.

Re: Found a rusty K-5 this time

Nice find Eric. Thanks for sharing. Curious if it has the pickup style grill for the speaker atop the dash...

Single wall top and no grill on top of the dash. I will try to read the blue sticker on the door for ya.

Looks decent- good addition to your collection. Do the belts attach to the top?

Re: Found a rusty K-5 this time

It's been a while since I've had a Blazer, but wasn't there a shoulder belt mount in the top?

What we have here is a base K/5 with optional bucket seats. Although I don't see them listed. The same seat as CST but with basket weave pattern and no console. Can we get a picture of the upholstery Eric? Thanky

I’ve got the sense that for 72 GM did away with “utility buckets” and used CST buckets in all K5s with the CSTs receiving the upgraded scroll vinyl seat covers. The buckets in Eric’s new Blazer are likely original to the truck.

Single wall and shoulder belts would of closed the deal for me

Re: Found a rusty K-5 this time

Are there holders in place for the female buckle ends of the shoulder belts?

Pic for ya. I also have the same buckets from a 72 burb with no console and had the holders on the sides.

I think you are correct. Does anyone have a 72 with utility buckets?

No holders.

The last pic is a single wall top where the belts would attach.

Ok, all this comes together right. I've had two base trim Blazers, '71 and '72, and one '70 CST. The '71 had utility buckets and the '72 had these like yours have, with the buckle holders on the inside bottom of the seats in both of them. I never paid much mind to analyzing SPIDs and what came with or w/o until I came to this site with all the discussion. I have a library of resources, but I sure enjoy working these details out this way better than "nose in books" method

Re: Found a rusty K-5 this time

So are we thinking utility buckets were not available in 72?

Re: Found a rusty K-5 this time

Yeah. I always thought the sport buckets were an option in base trim Blazers but, if that is true, yours should be listed on the SPID. This may not be conclusive. I know in base trim 71/72 pickups these buckets were an option. Only Custom Deluxe had no option for bucket seats due to the fabric vs vinyl. Although, that does contradict itself a bit with Cheyenne Supers. Except they had the available Cheyenne covers to use. The Custom Deluxe would have had to use the Custom covers which would take away the whole upgraded seating feature included in that pkg.

Re: Found a rusty K-5 this time

It’s my belief after looking at a lot of blazer photos and some in person that for 72 model K5s utlility buckets were not installed by GM. 1971 K5s did make use of utility buckets but this was the last model year. I had a 71 with utility buckets.

I’ll bet the square bodies had but a single style bucket as well but this is just a guess.
