Buy bed bolts elsewhere?

Sometime this winter I will be buying bed wood, etc., for my truck. I'm going with polished strips and bolts. I've been pricing out stuff from the various usual suppliers of bed wood. I'm wondering if there might be some savings to source the bolts from elsewhere. I did a quick look for s/s carriage bolts on line and found some at a pretty good price. They aren't polished s/s though. Has anyone ever sourced the hardware from other sources other than bed wood suppliers? Has anyone ever tried polishing s/s carriage bolt heads?

Re: Buy bed bolts elsewhere?

Yes, if you can, source them locally or online to save a little. I raised my bed floor 1 inch, so I sourced all of my hardware, including the stainless carriage bolts locally. I have a great hardware store near me and I got all of the lengths and sizes I needed. I polished all of the carriage bolt heads that needed polishing and painted the others that go along the perimeter and secure the wheel tubs.

Re: Buy bed bolts elsewhere?

There was a list of the sizes and quantities some where here. The one thing you may have to by would be the bed mount bolt set to get the washers in stainless.
