Water pump studs
I need the long studs for my 1971 chevy blazer 350 with A/C . The ones that hold on the clutch fan, spacer . and pulley to the water pump. I would like to have new , but good used ones will do.
Thanks |

Re: Water pump studs
ACE,Lowes and home improvement center will have them. They are 1/4"x20 bolts. Get the lentgh you need, get 4 flat washers and 4 lock washers.

Re: Water pump studs
You can also buy those water pump studs at auto parts stores. I believe the OE ones are fine thread on one end and medium thread on the other end. At least all mine have been.

Re: Water pump studs
Thanks, I need to find out if a AC truck had a spacer. If id did I would need 2 1/2 inch studs. Fine threads 5/16 on the stop end that goes into the pump, 5/16 and medium that goes by the clutch fan.

I have never seen a AC clutch fan with a spacer. Other than the one built into the clutch fan itself.

Re: Water pump studs
Yessir, and I wouldn't even consider that to be a spacer. More like the mounting plate for the clutch unit.

Re: Water pump studs
I'm curious of why you want the studs when a 1/4" -20 bolt will work just as good. If you ever have to change water pumps it a easy swap also without worrying about the studs. Just me though.

It can be a bit of a juggling act getting the bolts, especially the first one, through the fan clutch (with fan attached), then through the pulley, and finally threaded into the water pump flange. Everything is flopping around, there's not much room to work, and the WP flange rotates away from what you thought was a perfect alignment. With studs, you just slip the pulley on, then the fan clutch flange. Easy peasy. Next time I have mine apart, it's gonna get studs.

Re: Water pump studs
Thanks, I think with an AC truck with a clutch fan it should not have a spacer. and I will by the studs .
