MRC Hydroshox Opinions

Has anyone else seen the release of Mittler Bros Hydroshox? I have been waiting for a race inspired suspension design to run on big wheel frame laying trucks for years. I believe it has finally arrived.

I have never dealt with hydraulic parts, but have been using air suspension setups for years. Anyone else excited? Any concerns with someone running hydraulic fluid?

I saw part2 of that build but it didn't go into a lot of detail..it may have had more in part1...it looks expensive from what I saw

I've had plenty of hydraulic experience, but in terms of lowriders, they are far from what I'd call a performance suspension. I've never seen these particular units in use, so maybe they built a better mouse trap?

Usually the issue with hydraulics is weight, leaks, and ultra high pressure. Its much easier to clean up a damaged air line than it is to clean up 5 gallons of jack oil.

The technology is leap years ahead of 'traditional' hydraulic set-ups but I bet it comes @ a price.

It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

I've decided to make the leap. MRC is doing the front clip and nsane hotrodz doing the rest of the chassis. Will probably take some time since it will be an expensive project, but will keep everyone up to date.

Finnegans garage on YouTube.....fitted his c10 with it....looks like cool setup,basically mini coil overs on hydraulic Rams .....accumulators being the shock absorbent...

would you be comfortable giving me a ball park estimate on what is cost to replace that entire floor pan, I have to do the same and have the whole new pan sitting in the garage

i can personally say this, it ma not take as much space as air, but it does weigh more.

other than that, i doubt i will ever do air again, just the few times i needed to move it around with the battery unhooked...was a pain.

mine usually sat a while, so it aired out before i could get the projects done.

I prefer the adjustability of air from a security perspective. It becomes substantially harder to steal a vehicle that's flat on the ground vs. one that can easily be rolled. But, I never liked that air alignment set-points weren't repeatable until the height sensor era. There will always be the nay-sayers but 90psi(F)/40psi(R) when it's 50°F in the AM is not the same as the 90psi/40psi @ 90°F when you got the alignment done. Height sensors changed that but they come @ a cost + you still don't maintain a consistent spring rate unless you're @ the aligned/driving height.

Years ago I brainstormed w/an engineer I worked with (his background was Aerospace & mechanical) about figuring out a way to make suspension mounts that were on a Linear screw set-up (think electronic version of the NASCAR screw-jack but the mount point moves vs the suspension anchor points). That way you adjusted the mount set-point w/o disrupting the alignment & spring rates. I researched the heck out of it but never could find that 'It' item/part that could be adaptable within the space available.

These will definitely end up on my Retro-Rod.
