Vintage Air Question

What determines where the lines exit the firewall? I have looked at many installs on the forum and at car shows and there seems to be some wiggle room when it comes to where the lines come through.

The Gen IV kit comes with hard lines from the evap so they exit in the same place, straight line on the firewall near the engine. Some folks use a bulk head and soft hoses from the evap so you can put them wherever. More cost to change the location but looks better.
